|Nigel Jones BSc PhD FIA
Nigel is the CEO of Mitchell Consulting and focuses on delivery of the firm’s strategic goals and growing market share in addition to his role as Director of sister company 2020 Trustees and Head of Corporate Strategy.
He is a Scheme Actuary and joined Mitchell Consulting in 2009, having previously held senior roles with KPMG, Mercer and Aon Consulting.
Nigel has wide experience of advising Corporate and Trustee clients on both defined benefit and defined contribution pension arrangements, and well known clients that he has advised include Nissan, Hilti, Dunlop, Twyford Bathrooms, and Accurist.
Nigel has 20 years’ experience in the pensions industry and has around 15 Scheme Actuary appointments providing actuarial advice to schemes ranging from under £10 million to over £1 billion in asset size. He also specialises in bridging the gap to scheme Sponsors whether providing advice, or instead the understanding of, in respect of liability management and pension scheme de-risking.
Nigel is known for being very well-received by pension scheme members having given over 200 member presentations during his career. Nigel sits on a number of committees for the Actuarial Profession and has been the President of the North West Actuarial Society since 2010 and is also a School Governor.
|Gerry Walsh BA FIA
Gerry joined Mitchell Consulting as Director and Actuary in January 2005. He currently acts as Scheme Actuary to around a dozen clients, and also provides actuarial and consultancy advice to corporate and Trustee clients based in the UK and overseas.
Gerry has extensive experience of advising on all aspects of defined benefit and defined contribution pension arrangements, and has helped a number of his clients to redesign their arrangements in response to the changing pension landscape in the UK and overseas.
Before joining Mitchell Consulting, Gerry spent over 5 years working with Mercer, providing actuarial and pensions consultancy advice to corporate and Trustee clients, including a number of household names and plcs. His actuarial career began in 1990, working for Punter Southall Kerr & Company in London, before moving to PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1993, where he qualified as an Actuary in 1995. He also had a short spell working for a major UK insurance company.
Gerry graduated in 1990 with a first class honours degree in Economics from the University of Liverpool.
|Neil Mitchell BA MSc FIA
Neil is Managing Director and founder of Mitchell Consulting, forming the business originally in 1998. He looks after around 35 of our clients, including acting as Scheme Actuary to around 25 of them.
As well as his client duties, Neil also has overall responsibility for many aspects of the business, including IT development, policies and procedures, staffing and recruitment and finance. He also holds a Scheme Actuary certificate.
Prior to setting up Mitchell Consulting Neil trained as an actuary at R Watson & Sons (now Watson Wyatt) in 1989 where he spent 5 years servicing pension scheme clients in Reigate and Manchester. He was heavily involved in some very large schemes and was responsible for administration system design for a number of these. He moved to Coopers & Lybrand (now pwc) in 1994 where he helped establish an actuarial and pensions administration practice, and qualified as an actuary in July 1996. Early in 1998, Neil joined Rea Brothers to take over responsibility for the marketing of the actuarial services division, before setting up Mitchell Farrar in October 1998, becoming Mitchell Consulting in April 2000.
Neil holds degrees in Economics & Econometrics from Leeds and Southampton Universities.
Neil joined Mitchell Consulting in January 2016 as Business Development Manager.
Before joining Mitchell Consulting, Neil spent nearly 5 years with Buck Consultants in a national business development role, during which time he helped secure a number of significant new actuarial, administration and investment consulting appointments.
Neil’s career in pensions began back in 1999 at Profund Systems, a leading provider of pensions administration software. Neil spent nearly 10 years at Profund. He also had a short spell with TerraNua, a financial services software company based in Dublin and part of Fidelity International.
Neil specialises in working closely with both pension schemes and sponsoring employers and prides himself on fully understanding the requirements of his prospective clients before finding appropriate, high quality and cost-effective solutions that exactly address their needs.
